idk if he was serious about not liking the word way back when, but it seems he is. i am pleased; gay men who have some function in the story besides standing around being gay are just so rare.
i never saw their conversation as all that ambiguous. he quibbled over the terminology being outdated. If ‘gay’ had been an inaccurate term rather than merely an antiquated and overly simple one, he would have said that.
taking issue with the wording of a thing, in dialogue, is usually a cagey ‘yes’ that has had lots of time to think about how it wants to present itself.
He said it was outdated, but I’m pretty sure the main argument was not “oh, that’s so 21st century.” but that “I may not be attracted to you, but we’re the last two humans in existence so what the hell does it matter what my orientation is because the pool is kind of limited.”
